President’s Message – December 14, 2025

Seasons Greetings!

Santa will be arriving soon and we wanted to highlight a few topics before the festivities begin in your house.

Social Events

Fun Pickleball Play & Social Event – December 13, 2025

The Social Committee did another great job organizing the fun play event and Christmas celebration dinner for 93 attendees, which was served to the group in under 10 minutes!

After the dinner and dessert were served, the Social Committee did an awesome job entertaining us with a number of volunteers on the stage during a “get to know your partner” skit.  The committee also led a few Christmas and pickleball themed sign-a-long songs.

We sold 50/50 tickets during the fun play and dinner events. Ticket sales were $460. The $230 was divided into two $100 and one $30 winner. $230 will be donated to the Sunshine Acres Children’s Home. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets.

A big thanks to the social committee and all the volunteers who helped put our events together.

Workshops

We have established a group of coaches. These coaches will be provided with the skills/shots to be worked on – first by showing them, second by providing written instructions and thirdly they will teach what has been identified.

During Round Robin Workshops, we have planned five workshops for each skill level, twice a month in January and February and once in March during the round robins. The group of coaches will lead a 45–60-minute workshop at the beginning of the identified round robin sessions, with attendees learning/practicing 1 or 2 specific skills. If you don’t want to participate in the workshop at the beginning of your round robin, you show up after and join the workshop participants and play your games for the remaining time. Coaches may stay for a bit longer after the workshop to help mentor the participants/players.

More detailed information is available in your round robin sign-up and click on “Please visit the workshop sign-up to register and attend the workshop for your skill levelwhich will take you to the workshop sign-up. By signing up, it allows the coaches to prepare for each session.

Player Development Committee: David Ott, Mike Savre, Mark Van Tassel, Jack Hall, Julie Nosko and Donna Stensrud

In Mike’s absence this season, Mark Van Tassel has stepped in to help out. Thank you, Mark!

Volunteers

Group 2.0 Mentors

If you have time in your busy schedule, consider attending a Group 2.0 round robin on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm and be a mentor/guide for this group of newbies who are learning the pickleball basics. Thank you to the players who have already attended the round robin.  Click here to visit the sign-up to be a mentor, or just show up at the courts. Group 2.0 would really appreciate the guidance because they may aspire to be a pickleball player just like you!

Tournament Volunteers

If you haven’t had the chance yet, please sign-up on SUG to be a tournament volunteer for the tournaments in January, February and March. Thank you!

Club Expo

The Executive Committee will be at the January 10 Club Expo to answer questions and help with online membership forms, and talk about the court schedule, etc. to people who are interested in learning more about our club.

Executive Committee

Susie Mauer has decided to be a volunteer for the social events and assist with the club merchandise. She has resigned as Acting Secretary. We thank Susie for giving it a go and we thank her for doing an awesome job. Susie, you will be missed!

Suzan Ott will become our secretary and we look forward to working with her. Thanks for volunteering Suzan! Safe travels to Greg and Suzan who will arrive in Silveridge at the end of this month.

Secondly, Tom Drouillard, 2nd VP will be resigning at the end of December. Tom has done an awesome job since joining the Executive Committee in March 2024.  His dedication, hard work and contribution on the Executive Committee will be missed. Tom was very instrumental in a number of new initiatives and implementing changes. We look forward to Tom staying involved in the Silveridge Pickleball community in other capacities. If you don’t see Tom on the pickleball courts, you might find him in the billiards room!

We will have the 2 open positions:

  • 2nd VP (replacing Tom, as soon as we can)
  • Communications Officer, which will become vacant at the Annual General Meeting on March 7th

As a team, we review the tasks and projects of each position and discuss if anything needs to be reallocated (or placed on hold or deleted) to another position to ensure duties and work load are balanced. We also take into consideration an individual’s skill set and what they would like to do. If you would like to volunteer and be part of the Executive Committee team, please approach any Executive Committee member or contact me directly.

Don’t miss a thing!

Remember to visit our website for club information and the monthly Activity Calendars are available at the court and a printable format can be found on the Calendar of Events page, which can be hung on your fridge so you don’t miss a thing!

In Closing

We would like to wish you happy holidays. Hoping your holiday season is full of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.

See you on the court.
